Bellstand for quarter bell. Bell stand for quarter bell viewed from the top. Hour bell hammer pined to shaft. This type of hammer showes continental influance. The top plate with two of the quarter bells and the hammers back in their correct places. The bell hammers and bell stands had been bent to fit inside the smaller bell. When the larger one was fitted and the bell stands and hammers bent back the bells fitted nicelly into the larger bell.
Using a hand made tape to put a thread in the new bell stand base, this tape is made to the pitch of the old screw. The time side plates together with the wheels inside. Part of the motion work is also shown with the friction spring now under this wheel. More detail of the wheel with the punched dimmples for the pinion to fit into. The pinion in place.
Originally we believe the friction was of the continental type the integral iron boss being the backplate and the wheel free to turn on its arbour. At the moment the wheel is seen to be riveted onto a round not square part of the arbour. (The other two great wheels are riveted onto squares.) Pin hole is clearly seen in the arbour. The friction as it is now. The friction has not been changed but a demonstration friction spring has been made and fitted to show the principal.
